Kelayakkan Ugama atau Temberang Politik? (2)

Zahid the man of religion

By ZULKIFLI ABD RAHMAN
The Star, Wednesday, 02 April 2008

IT MAY have come as a surprise to some but not Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, when he was appointed as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department with the responsibility of managing religious affairs.

Zahid believed his religious background was a factor in Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi selecting him for the task.

Zahid's parents Raden Ahmad Tarmidzi Raden Abdul Fattah and Tuminah Abdul Jalil were adamant in ensuring he had a good religious upbringing. Born in Bagan Datoh, Perak, on Jan 4, 1953, he pursued his secondary school education in a religious school in Ipoh, SMA Izuddin Shah.

As a matter of fact Zahid's grandfather Raden Ahmad, who was born in Jogjyakarta in Indonesia, was a mudir or director of a tahfiz (Quran-reading) school in Bagan Datoh and also taught at religious schools and mosques there.

"My father also studied religion and was well-liked by Syeikh Abdullah Fahim, who was the mudir of Madrasah Idrisiah in Kuala Kangsar."

"Syeikh Abdullah, who is the Prime Minister's grandfather, was later appointed as the Penang mufti and brought my father along to study at a madrasah in Kepala Batas near his home," he added.

Zahid said it was not a problem for him whether people categorised him as a "modernist Muslim" or a "conservative." ...

Deputy Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has been conferred a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Communication by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

He will receive the Phd at UPM's convocation in October, said the university's School of Graduate Studies Deputy Dean Prof Dr Hasanah Mohd Ghazali in a statement here today.

The university senate approved the degree at its meeting on Feb 21. For the Phd, Dr Zahid completed a thesis entitled "Barisan Nasional Manifesto As Agenda for Malay Language Newspaper During the General Election Campaign."

The study was undertaken to identify the usage of BN manifesto as an agenda for the Malay language newspapers namely Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian during the general elections in 1982, 1986, 1990, 1995 dan 1999.

Utusan Malaysia, Nov 11hb, 2008

Timbalan Mufti Singapura, Mohd.

"I have also never put on an image of someone who is seen to be religious, like wearing a kopiah (skullcap), growing a beard and putting on a jubah (robe)." - The Star 2nd April 2008

Sungguhkah? Gambar diambil dari blog Perak Bangkit.

Blogger ~PakKaramu~ memberi komen di sini. Katanya,

"Datuk Zahid Hamidi satu-satunya orang UMNO yang faham tentang agama, biarkanlah dia bersama-sama pimpinan UMNO sekurang-kurangnya dia berguna pada orang melayu, jika tidak UMNO lagi payah."
Sejurus selepas Zahid dilantik Menteri "Agama", The Star memberi dia liputan istimewa. Baca dahulu liputan The Star berikut:

Zahid said it was not a problem for him whether people categorised him as a "modernist Muslim" or a "conservative."

People also know that he is an avid biker, a sort of person who likes the rugged life.

"I have also never put on an image of someone who is seen to be religious, like wearing a kopiah (skullcap), growing a beard and putting on a jubah (robe). But Pak Lah has recognised my contribution to Umno as well as in various religious organisations and I will do my best," said Zahid, who is the chairman of the Superbikers Association of Malaysia (SAM).

He escaped serious injuries while leading a SAM convoy during the Tour de Indonesia motorcycle expedition last year.

Zahid believed that among the things that caught Abdullah's eye was his ability to organise and promote major Islamic religious activities, including the special meeting between the Prime Minister and state muftis, and a national imam conference.

The Bagan Datoh MP is also the chairman of the Hadhari Foundation and Hadhari secretariat and chair of the Dewan Amal Islam Hadhari, which is an umbrella organisation to help unite the country's Muslim NGOs.

On his plans as Minister in charge of Religious Affairs, Zahid said he would give more input to strengthen the moderate Islam approach and improving relations with religious leaders in the country.

Zahid joined Umno in 1976 soon after graduating from Universiti Malaya. He said his uncle Ustaz Raden Zabidi Abdul Fatah, an Umno branch leader, was the one who talked him into it.

"My uncle, who was a teacher to many muftis and kadis, actually passed me an Umno membership form which I duly signed," he added.

Since then , the 55-year-old Umno supreme council member has had his fair share of political turmoil.

His star began to shine when Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak appointed him as his political secretary in 1987 while Zahid was the youth head of the Bagan Datoh Umno division.

He rose quickly to become the Umno Youth chief. His career, however, stalled when he was detained under the Internal Security Act, albeit for only 10 days, during the Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim-led reformasi campaign in 1998.

"I don't deny that I'm friends with Anwar but I was never influenced by him. I never served under him.

"I don't blame Tun (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) for detaining me under the ISA. Maybe he got feedback from people who thought I was a threat at that particular time," he added.

Zahid's political resurrection began in the 2000 Umno elections when he received the fourth highest number of votes in the contest for a supreme council seat. In 2004, he obtained the second highest number of votes to retain his seat comfortably.

Zahid has indeed come a long way from the boy who once sold ice-cream in primary school to learn to be self-sufficient and later helped in the school canteen as a teenager to earn extra pocket money.

But his determination to be the best that he can has always stood him in good stead and it is this quality that will serve him well as a full-fledged Minister
.

"Beliau belajar hanya setakat Sekolah Menengah Agama Izuddin.

Adakah Zahid faham isu-isu agama?

Usah kompromi soal Islam

Utusan Malaysia, 25hb November, 2008

Mukaddimah

Beliau yang bakal bertanding kerusi Naib Presiden UMNO turut mengulas mengenai pandangan bahawa kelemahan UMNO menjadi punca orang Melayu semakin diperkotak-katikkan.

UTUSAN: Walaupun menghadapi pelbagai cabaran namun orang Melayu masih dilihat sukar untuk bersatu, apa masalahnya?
AHMAD ZAHID:

Mengapa Zahid mendahului tuhan?

Zahid Hamidi launch International Islamic Hub in i-City

The Star, Friday November 21, 2008

Big plans for i-City

SHAH Alam’s most advanced township, i-City, was honoured recently with the visit of two ministers.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat was the guest-of-honour at the official naming of the township’s main boulevard while Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi launched the International Islamic Hub in i-City.

I-City, developed by I-Berhad, is a RM2bil integrated commercial development on a 29ha site in Section 7, Shah Alam. I-Berhad chairman Datuk Lim Kim Hong’s vision is to make it a digital city where the entire township is connected by one fibre optic network and managed as one commercial complex.

Unique: The City Walk is a pedestrian mall in i-City, Shah Alam.

“The technology to make this vision a reality is the Cisco Connected Real Estate (CISCO CRE) platform. With this technology in place, all the buildings and offices within i-City can communicate with one another as well as with the global community via high speed Internet service,’’ Lim said.

Ong said the i-City management model had parallels to many agencies and GLCs under the Transport Ministry such as Port Klang and KLIA which manage large areas.

“In these organisations, it is recognised that the rapid evolution of the Internet into an ultra fast, powerful and borderless communication tool has transformed the course in which businesses are conducted.

These organisations have adopted Internet technology to better provide customer services. In many ways, they are no different than i-City in making use of the Internet as the technology platform.

”In the current economic climate, the i-City business model is one way to allow these agencies and GLCs to continue to invest in technology without creating additional burden on the shareholders and the Government”.

New: Lim (left) and Ong posing in front of the Jalan Multimedia signboard after the naming ceremony.

”Furthermore, as the i-City is near KLIA and Port Klang, i-City could be a support hub for the many logistics companies located there,’’ Ong added.

He said from his ministry’s perspective, such a centre would be good because it would enable many Malaysian logistics companies to compete cost effectively with the global players.

I-City also offers a campus environment where the communities gather, meet and interact. It is not only an MSC investment location for the international business community, but also an international cosmopolitan lifestyle centre. So far, there are 12 MSC tenants in i-City, and more are expected to move in by next year.

Salahlaku Pecah Amanah (CBT) Zahid Hamidi

3. Lembaga Pemegang Amanah YGBK ketika itu adalah:-

Pengerusi: Dato Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak
Setiausaha: Dato Ahmad Zahid Hamidi
Bendahari: Dato Seri Tengku Adnan tengku Mansor
Ahli: Dr Tajuddin Jali, Datok Seri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis

6. Dato Ahmad Zahid Hamidi melakukan pecah amanah:-

Wednesday, 16-Jul-2003 12:00 AM

A person of loose morals is not a believable witness: Mahathir

When an underage girl admitted that she had an affair with one-time Chief Minister of Melaka State, Rahim Thambi Chik, Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad declared that she is not to be believed because she is a girl of loose morals.

That she is of “loose morals” was “confirmed” by someone close to Rahim and this Rahim aide went on to relate how his Chief Minister Boss got entangled with the girl.

“One day, Rahim phoned her house to speak to the elder sister. Rahim was in fact having an affair with the elder sister,” said the Rahim aide.

“The elder sister was not home, though, and the younger sister took the call. This younger sister then said she had been meaning to meet Rahim for some time, so Rahim invited her over to his office.”

“The younger sister then went to Rahim’s office where she told him she wanted to borrow some money. Rahim told her to return the next day as he did not have any cash on him, but to come after 4.00pm when everyone had gone home.”

“The next day, the younger sister went to Rahim’s office after 4.00pm and that’s when the affair with the younger sister started. In fact, they had sex, there and then, in the office,” said the Rahim aide chuckling with delight.

The girl disappeared soon after the story broke and, according to this Rahim aide, he and two other people had smuggled her to Thailand for a “holiday”. The girl’s frantic grandmother, after failing to find her granddaughter, made a police report. It was feared she had been arrested to get her out of circulation.

Lim Guan Eng, the son of Lim Kit Siang, the Chairman of the Democratic Action Party, came to the grandmother’s defence and took the police to task for persecuting the underage rape victim while allowing the criminal Chief Minister to walk free. For his outspokenness, Lim Guan Eng was sent to jail for 18 months.

Anwar Ibrahim, who was then still in the government, was terribly unhappy about the whole matter. In a meeting with Malaysian students in London, Anwar spoke about how these are some of the many travesties of justice that need to be addressed.

Even when still in the government Anwar was calling for Reformation, which is “Reformasi” in Malay. Anwar was bent on bringing Rahim to book and, through Umno Youth, he pressured Rahim to resign as the Umno Youth Chief as well as Chief Minister of Melaka. Zahid Hamidi, the Deputy Youth Chief then, took over as the new Umno Youth Chief.

But that was all Rahim suffered - he had to resign from his posts as Umno Youth Chief and Melaka Chief Minister. He was never brought to trial for his crime of statutory rape as, according to the Attorney-General then, “there was not enough evidence to press charges.”

And who was this Attorney-General? Mohtar Abdullah, of course; who recently died after lingering in a coma for 11 months.

Zahid Hamidi, who was by then the new Umno Youth Chief and who, today, is still in Umno as a “has been”, was outraged. He went round the country telling the Umno Youth grassroots leaders that Mohtar Abdullah had “fixed” Rahim’s case.

Zahid related how he had led an Umno Youth delegation to meet Mohtar to enquire into the progress of the case against Rahim and the Attorney-General told them he had received instructions from the top to drop the case.

The way it was done, said the infuriated Zahid, was they told the girl to describe the crucial part of Rahim’s body that was instrumental in the deed, basically his private parts. When the girl could not make a specific description - such as its length and size - it was declared that they lacked sufficient evidence and the case against Rahim was dropped.

Zahid was disturbed by all this and he made his concern known to the Umno Youth grassroots leaders. He felt that Mohtar had intentionally created this “technicality” to enable them to drop the case against Rahim. In fact, said Zahid, the Attorney-General never said Rahim was innocent of the charge. He merely said there was insufficient evidence to proceed further.

Zahid was subsequently detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) in September 1998 on grounds of being a “threat to national security” – he and a few others were alleged to be behind the pro-Anwar Reformasi demonstrations.

“My arrest under the Internal Security Act had nothing to do with Anwar Ibrahim though that’s what they made it look like,” said Zahid. “I was detained because of the Rahim Thambi Chik case.”

“To secure my release from ISA detention, I was forced to confess that I believe Anwar is guilty of sodomy. In fact, even if Anwar himself had confessed in front of me that he had sodomised Azizan, I would still not believe it,” said Zahid.

Rahim was spared prosecution because the underage girl he was alleged to have raped could not precisely describe certain parts of his body. And her word alone was not good enough because she is supposed to be someone of loose morals.

Anwar Ibrahim’s accuser, Azizan, not only could not be specific about exactly when Anwar was supposed to have sodomised him (was in 1993, 1994 or 1995 and was it in January, February or March?), but he even testified under oath, THREE TIMES, that Anwar NEVER sodomised him, yet, not only was Anwar indicted, but they even secured a conviction. And Azizan was subsequently arrested and jailed six months for a sexual offence, which certainly makes him a person of loose morals according to Dr Mahathir’s interpretation, and therefore one not to be believed.

Rahim eventually got his revenge on Anwar when he “sponsored” the book “50 Reasons Why Anwar Cannot Become Prime Minister” that was the basis of the police investigation on Anwar’s “sexual misconduct”. Is it a coincidence that the book was published by a company in Melaka that was “renting” a building owned by Rahim and was it by chance that 2,000 copies of the book mysteriously found its way into the folders of the Umno delegates at the 1998 General Assembly?

Oh, and for his “service”, the Rahim aide was given 1,000 acres of prime land in Melaka, beside the PLUS Highway, which he subsequently sold to HICOM for a princely sum – and he and Rahim lived happily after.

KOMEN: Mungkin kita patut tanya Zahid sekarang. Adakah dia masih percaya Anwar tidak lakukan sodomi?

Malaysia: Dr Zahid Urges Malaysian Firms To Expand Into OIC Countries

Thursday, 20 November 2008

SHAH ALAM, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi Wednesday urged local firms involved in Islamic based businesses to expand their business to the member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC).

The Islamic business and financial market offers an alternative venue for Malaysian companies in the midst of the challenges brought by the current global financial crisis, he said in his keynote address at the launch of the International Islamic Hub in i-City, the 29-hectare digital township here.

"In view of this, it is timely for all business sectors to look into the possibility of using Islamic instruments and Islamic financial institution services in place of the present conventional financial instrument and banking," Dr Ahmad Zahid said.

He said the recent global financial meltdown had illustrated the need for a system based on profit sharing principle, where both parties in a contract are subjected to potential losses and returns, something which is underlined under the Islamic business principles.

Under the Islamic system, both parties would have a win-win situation as losses would not burden only one party, he pointed out.

He said many of the OIC economies were showing strong fundamental growth potential and were increasingly becoming part of the global emerging markets, while a variety of existing and new forums have been established to promote OIC based corporate interaction and to help leverage trade opportunities.

Malaysia recently organised the World Islamic Tourism Conference and Expo 2008 and played its role in the establishment of the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance in this country to overcome the shortage of finance staff with Syariah knowledge.

Dr Ahmad Zaid Wednesday also commended i-City for taking the initiative to engage with the OIC community.

"Its strategic alliance with Al Rajhi Banking Group in its cybercentre office development is a reflection of the opportunities that are available with the OIC member countries," he said.

He said Malaysia was also unique in its promotion of Islamic financial products as it marketed them both in the English and Bahasa Malaysia language, and where the non-Muslims understood them, unlike other countries where the products were promoted mostly in Arabic.

Dr Ahmad Zahid also said he had advised Islamic scholars here not to use difficult Arabic words like Bai Bithamin Ajil in promoting Islamic based loans but to simplify the terms to BBA for example, so as not to "scare" the people.

He also called on Muslims and non-Muslims to do away with their differences and work together to promote Islamic financial products as one did not have to be a Muslim to promote Islamic products.

Meanwhile, the director of I-Bhd, Eu Hong Chew, said in his presentation Wednesday that the company has set aside two hectares from its total development area of i-City for the international Islamic hub.

The hub will consist of an Information Communication Technology Centre for OIC countries, Islamic Financial Education Centre, Support Centre for Halal Product Logistic and Islamic Resource Centre.

Eu said the centres will help in the development of Islamic knowlegde based economy as they would provide cost effective operations and provide the environment for innovation of new ideas in the development of Islamic business and finance sectors.

The centres are expected to cost around RM800 million and their completion would be between three and four years.

i-City which is developed by I-Bhd provides high speed broadband connectivity at 20 megabit per second, and its features include a backup power supply system, data centre and fibre optics interconnectivity among the buildings. Among its other facilities will be a shopping mall, hotel and office towers.

DR.

Bhd., Datuk KY Mustapha; wakil Naib Canselor UMS, Prof. Dr. Roslinah Ahmad Saufi; Pengarah Jabatan Hal Ehwal Agama Islam Negeri (JHEAINS), Amri Suratman dan Timbalan Pengerusi Masjid Bandaraya, Ab. Jamal Tun Sakaran.

KOMEN: Peh ...! Kira Masjid Hadhari ni lagi hebat dari Masjid Haram Mekah dan Masjid Nabawi. Pasai dia Hadhari ... Ha ha ha

Jakim not involved in Rebana Ubi arch project

The Star, Thursday November 20, 2008

SHAH ALAM: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied that the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) is involved in the construction of the Rebana Ubi arch, which will reportedly be built on the Federal Highway.

He said the department was not involved in any construction involving arches, adding that he would not know if other religious authorities were involved.

Impressive: I-Berhad chairman Datuk Lim Kim Hong (second from left) showing Ahmad Zahid (left) a model of the International Islamic Hub in Shah Alam yesterday.

“Jakim definitely has many other more important things to do than to construct arches along the Federal Highway,” he told reporters after launching the 29ha International Islamic Hub at I-city here yesterday.

“I deny that Jakim is involved in the construction of any arch.”

He was responding to a news report on public outcry that they had been kept in the dark over the project that was reportedly being carried out by Jakim.

The newspaper claimed that there were plans to build the arch near the UEM and Malay College Old Boys Association buildings at the Jalan Syed Putra stretch of the Federal Highway.

City Hall and the Federal Territories Ministry have since denied any links with the project, which is said to have left thousands of consumers without water on Tuesday night due to work carried out by Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor for the project.

Earlier in Serdang, Ahmad Zahid said the authorities would charge heretical Islamic sect founder Ayah Pin or Arifin Muhamad, 65, in court in Kuala Terengganu once he returned to the country.

He said the authorities had identified Ayah Pin’s location and were working on bringing him home.

In Kuala Terengganu, Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said slammed the state’s religious department for its weak stance over the Ayah Pin case although it had the opportunity to apprehend him recently.

Syor wujud Majlis Peguam Syarie

Utusan Malaysia Okt 19, 2008

Oleh FAIZAH IZZANI ZAKARIA

KUALA LUMPUR 19 Nov.

Baru seorang bekas Hakim beri pandangan, kamu dah main setuju.

Jangan main cepat melompat saja, Zahid. Tak ada kelas sebagai Menteri ...

BIjaknya "Dr Zahid Hamidi" Jawab ...

Dari Pahangdaily

Eksklusif: Zahid Hamidi Selar Raja Petra Pertikai Prosedur Tahanan ISA Tidak Dibenarkan Solat !!

Did Zahid Hamidi really had a Phd?

Phd for Zahid Hamidi

From blog Education in Malaysia

A few friends emailed me recently to tell me that an UMNO leader, Zahid Hamidi, currently a Minister in the PM's department and former UMNO Youth Chief when Anwar was still DPM, was recently conferred a PhD in Communications from UPM. I applaud his resilience in doing his PhD part time despite his busy schedule as a politician. But I am probably a bit suspect in regard to the content of his PhD thesis.

I heard Zahid Hamidi speak at a small PROMUDA function a few years back and he came across as an intelligent and intellectually curious UMNO leader. This was in 2003 and he was already doing his PhD then. I was impressed because he didn't really need to get a PhD to bolster his political credentials. I'm glad that he managed to finally finish his PhD. It's a long process which I can certainly attest to as I'm working hard to finish my own PhD thesis next year.

But I can't help but have a niggling doubt as to the quality of his PhD research. For now, I'll have to give him the benefit of the doubt in regard to whether he did all the work himself or if he hired researchers to some at least part of the work on his behalf. I'll reproduce a brief description of his thesis which appeared on the Ministry of Information
website and I'll comment after that.

Dr Zahid, when asked to comment on the degree, hoped that it would spur the young generation to pursue their education to a higher level. He said that the major factor for his success was his belief in life long learning and hoped that it would encourage his children to follow in his footsteps.

"I hope this success will spur my political colleagues, especially the younger ones to study to a higher level. "If I can do it at the age of 55, the young generation should feel challenged (by it)," he said.

Commenting on his thesis, Dr Zahid said that based on the research the manifesto, which is regarded as a promise by BN, was the basis for the success and support obtained by the party during the general elections.

If the manifesto announced provided something good for the rakyat, the effect would be seen from the number of popular votes and increase in the number of seats won by BN, he said.
I'm not sure if this article quoted him correctly but I find the last remark quite disturbing. Has there been a case in the past whereby a BN manifesto would NOT provide something good for the rakyat thereby leading it to lose popular votes and seats? I'm not sure if he had a well defined dependent variable and a set of independent variables which he used in a regression analysis to test his hypothesis but from that statement alone, I find this hard to believe.

Furthermore, he tracked the usage of the BN manifesto in Utusan and Berita Harian in the elections starting from 1982 and ending in 1999. Unless you used very sophisticated coding to pick out and define different categories of reports and later quantify them, I suspect that you would not get much variance in regard to how these papers presented the BN manifesto to its readers - overwhelmingly POSITIVE! In social science methodological speak, you don't get any variance in the independent variable i.e. the BN manifesto or the newspapers reporting them.

In any case, I don't really think there's enough variance on his dependent variable i.e. electoral outcomes in the 6 elections he covered. He cannot possibly use the outcomes in individual constituencies as his dependent variables since you cannot possibly measure the impact of newspaper reporting on the BN manifesto by individual constituencies.

My sense is that he may have been poorly guided by his advisers at UPM who might not have wanted to piss off a high ranking UMNO leader and deny him his PhD. Every PhD inevitably has its share of weaknesses (I'm sure my own will be the same) but some methodological shortcomings will not pass muster in most universities where the advising committee does some sort of quality control.

I hope I can get my hands on his PhD thesis. If anyone has access to it, please email me.

KOMEN: Adakah betul Zahid dapat Phd? Tajuk macam begitu bolehkah jadi dissertation Phd?

Checkmate and Gameover for Anwar Ibrahim

From Malaysia Instinct.com

This needs to be said.

Once upon a time I knew almost all of the PKR personalities who are around today. They were once members of Umno. I once knew this arrogant pseudo-intellectual Khalid Jaafa, PKR supreme council member, who was one of Anwar Ibrahim's press secretaries.

Khalid is one detached fellow human being who has a serious personality flaw, that is, he is not able to reach out. He is one who is not able to have two way communications. He will always be seen to have this superior and snooty look about him. No wait, we believe that he believes he is much a superior being who always carries a thick book, thicker than the War and Peace edition, to prove it. He is one who never fails not to answer any straight question given to him.

When he was a press secretary to Anwar Ibrahim, he had a knack of not making reporters feel welcome. Well today he is still the same way, I was told, and he is now seriously thinking of ruling this country with his PKR cohorts. Good luck!

Then there was this Azmin Ali, who struck me as a Malay boy who had a very unhappy childhood. I was told he subscribes to Frederich Nietzsche’s theory of going against any moral philosophy. To him, Anwar Ibrahim is a perfect human being and when he was a private secretary to Anwar, he was also detached from the rest of the world. He is convinced Umno philosophy is wrong from day one!

I was told, yet to be verified, that he would asked for a "token" sum if an appointment was to be made with his boss. He has a sister who accused his boss of having an affair with his (Azmin’s) wife, and she also accused Anwar of buggery.

Azmin also has another brother, a very irritating TV "personality", a role model for future Malaysians! Sigh! After watching his brother on TV I am not sure whether this guy is gay, a cross dresser or what. Anyway he is quite irritating to me, just my opinion. Sorry to deviate, this is another story!

Then there is this very volatile Saifuddin Nasution. He is one angry young man. Trying to have a conversation with him is like preparing for war. He is always very belligerent. When he was with the Umno youth he tried very hard to "Abim-mise", or "Abrar-rise " or "Arab-ise", "what ever-ise" Umno; he failed and he left.

Umno Youth under Zahid Hamidi was an early failed attempt to turn or shape it into a very dangerous secret society-like organisation. At that point in time Zahid Hamidi, who was the youth head, was also perceived then to be pro-Anwar.

The only one of Anwar's "cohorts" that is still in contact with me is his other press secretary, Adlin Zabri. Adlin is a good guy who just got caught in an unfortunate political whirl pool. However, after many, many years of being treated like a leper, he is now doing very well on his own and the rest, according to him, was just a bad "dream". Well done Adlin.
.
What prompted me to write this? Well, there are times when I wake up in the morning and I would say to myself the hell with the Malays, my own people, why should I bother in defending their rights, in my own way that is.

For as long as I can remember the Malays are either in total ignorance, or in total disarray and I am beginning to believe they are suffering from this "bodoh dan sombong" syndrome or to loosely translate, it means "stupid and ignorant" or "stupid and very proud to admit the stupidity".

The assumption here is that if you admit that you are stupid it shows you want to learn and to know what it is all about. But to not admit you are stupid and then to pretend you are intelligent and smart. Well that spells the end of you.

Speaking on behalf of the Malays, this is what is happening to them now. It is refreshing to hear Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor admitting to the fact that Umno is sick and in dire need of medication.

Of course Umno is sick, when the whole bunch of them nominate a leader who is already tarnished due to corruption. I am talking about the nominations given to Muhamad Muhammad Taib.

A friend from Sabah was so tensed up when she asked why Umno divisions nominate this man who is clearly corrupt when he was caught with a bunch of currency in his bag? "If Umno is not sick Muhamad Muhamad Taib would not have gotten one single nomination," she said, and I agree with her.

Then there is this Rahim Thamby Chik, former Chief Minister of Malacca, who had to step down as Umno Youth chief over over investigations of beng involved with an underaged girl, and yet he was nominated for a vice-president post even though he was not qualified to contest. Nevertheless some Umno buffoons nominated him.

Then Umno has got this Nazri Aziz who uses such word as “celupah” without respect for an elder statesman like Tun Mahathir. Celupah is not a nice way to describe a man penchant for explaining. Nazri is also arrogant, and he is the symptomatic to Umno ailment.

Again what prompted me to write this piece? After reading PKR’s announcement to hold a congress at a stadium somwhere, and Anwar Ibrahim will again "explain" read "fooled" to PKR members with his rhetoric as to why he could not form a government on Sept 16.

Well, this man has a gift of gab, read lies, and rest assured his explanations will be accepted by all of the "bodoh sombong" Malays at this congress.

It was reported that about 2,000 morons from 160 divisions were expected to attend this three-day congress from Nov 28, beginning with the Wanita and Youth meetings, at the Stadium Melawati in Shah Alam.

According to Khalid, this year’s theme is Harapan Baru (A New Dawn), might as well call it A New Lie. Khalid said Anwar would introduce new and sophisticated lies on changes in store for PKR. “This congress will not just be a routine meeting. We have to mobilise the party since 2009 will be volatile with the (scheduled) power transition in Umno,” he added.

Well Malays, go on a “disarray binge” for all I care, for as a race you do not deserve a country, and you deserve a leader like Anwar Ibrahim, who after saying Najib as a prime minister will be a dictator, and will accuse Najib when he takes over as the next prime minister about something else.

There will be no end to the Malay Dillema as long as this man Anwar is around. -(Courtesy of BarkingMagpie, with a bit of changes)

Wanita diminta jangan berpecah

Utusan Malaysia, Nov 13hb, 2008

KUALA LUMPUR 12 Nov.

KOMEN: Jangan cakap banyaklah, Zahid!

Kau nak lawan Muhyiddin walaupun muka kau hanya harga sepuloh sen pun buat apa?

Main duit lagi pecahkan parti. Kau setuju tak Zahid, Menteri "Alim Ugama"?

Ahmad Zahid: Entry of more candidates good for democracy

The Star, Tuesday November 11, 2008

PUTRAJAYA: The Umno division meetings officially ended last weekend but Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reckons it can still be a nine-way fight for the vice-president posts instead of eight.

Five divisions are only convening next week because their meetings had been postponed due to various reasons, said Ahmad Zahid, a vice-president aspirant himself.

“The entry of yet another candidate for the party polls in March will be good for democracy within Umno,” he told reporters after giving an interview on wakaf issues at the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) here yesterday.

So far, the ones who have qualified to contest for the three vice-president posts are Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Ahmad Zahid, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin, Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar and Tan Sri Mohd Isa Samad, Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim and Datuk Seri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis.

Ahmad Zahid has the second highest number of nominations at 103 after Hishammuddin. A candidate needs at least 20 nominations to contest.

Risda chairman Tan Sri Rahim Thamby Chik, who now has 16 nominations, may qualify if all the five divisions give him their nominations.

Ahmad Zahid said the high number of nominations he received was an indication that his offer to vie for the vice-presidency had strong grassroots support.

“However, the number cannot be used as a gauge to determine if I would obtain the highest number of votes from among the 2,565 delegates in the polls in March.”

Ahmad Zahid also decried the recent reports of money politics, adding that the scourge only involved a few members or divisions.

“It is not fair to accuse all divisions and members of practising money politics,” he said.
